Accepting a New Baby
Expecting a new addition to the family is an exciting time. Sometimes however, the child will see the new sibling as a rival and have trouble adapting to the change. Get your child thinking about the world from his/her younger sibling’s eyes by using questions such as:
- “Look! She’s smiling when you are singing, do you think she enjoys your song?”
- “Why do you think baby is crying?”
- “Is she hungry?”
This is one way that you can have your child think about the baby as a person and develop empathy for him/her.
